Son Parc is only 25 minutes drive from the airport, located in the North East of the island.  In the summer months the resort offers a handful of restaurants & bars to suit most tastes, from bars, beach clubs and pizzerias to larger restaurants serving excellent cuisine.  Most of the bars hold evening entertainment and show live football on big screen TV's.
It's a quiet resort with the emphasis around enjoying a good meal & a few drinks and then strolling back to the villa for a night cap.

Son Parc has a couple of seasonal supermarkets which are small, but have most of the essentials. For a bigger shop, you will find the familiar names such as Lidl, Mercadona and Eroski in the nearby towns of Es Mercadal or Mahon, which are just a short drive away. Alternatively, why not order in advance for a home delivery.
Hiring a car is most peoples preferred option, as it gives the freedom to explore this beautiful island. The roads are fairly quiet and well maintained and nothing is too far away! Or, there is a very reliable bus service which will enable you to travel around the island at a very reasonable cost, stopping at the local towns & numerous beach resorts. Or you could just call for a taxi, again being very reliable and inexpensive.
The cost from the airport to the resort is around €40 one way for 4 people. Or, you can get a shared shuttle bus or private mini bus for larger parties, from several companies:

You can walk from the villa to the beach, which is known as 'Arenal Son Saura', in approximately 20 minutes.  It is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island with its curved bay of fine white sand, warm blue sea and its backdrop of rolling sand dunes.  There are water sports on offer in the summer months and 2 beach bars/restaurants serving good food, placed at either end of the bay.  If you want to take your car there is a large (free) car park.

From the beach you can pick up the Cami de Cavalls and walk in either direction. You can reach Arenal D'en Castell, approx. 2.5kms/20mins walk, with its stunning horse shoe shaped beach and plenty of restaurants, shops and bars. Or, a longer walk of around 9kms from the beach car park will take you to the pretty fishing village of Fornells with its palm tree lined promenade of restaurants & traditional whitewashed pueblo (the sandy beach is further around the headland close to the holiday apartments and is called 'Cala Tirant'). If you don't want to venture that far, the tiny sandy cove of Cala Pudent is about 30 minutes walk along a rough track leading off the beach.

If you want to explore further afield and have hired a car, then the north coast beaches are well worth a visit. They are in contrast to the other beaches with their yellow/orange course sand, rocky inlets & tend to be quieter. You might have to park up & walk, so it's best to be prepared and take water with you.

Further down the coast is Es Grau, which you can reach by travelling through the lush national park of S'Albufera. Es Grau has several restaurants and a long sandy beach with shallow warm water - perfect for children. Closer to Mao is the pretty double sided beach of Sa Mesquida, with its castle on the hill - this is the locals favourite.

Moving down to the south coast you will find a host of spectacular beaches. The pretty bay of Binibecca with its old fisherman's village and plenty of restaurants to choose from is definitely worth a visit. Or maybe you prefer long sandy beaches, in which case Son Bou is perfect at around 3kms long. Further along the coast is Cala Galdana with its beautiful sweeping bay backed by pine trees. And don't forget the Cami de Cavalls links up to all of these main beaches and from there you can walk to many other tiny virgin beaches.

There are too many beaches on the island to name them all - in fact there are over 100! (More than Mallorca and Ibiza combined) and they are all just as beautiful as each other. Take a look at the guides in the villa to help you choose!
