Being only around 45kms wide, you can visit the whole island in a day, but it is worth spending some time in at least one of the inland towns and villages. With a packed schedule of market days covering the majority of the towns, there's always something to see and do. You will find more details on market days/nights in the guide in the villa.
Central to Menorca is Monte Toro, the highest point on the island. You can park at the top (or walk up if you're fit, which takes about 45 minutes). At the top you'll find a working monastery, a very good cafe & well stocked souvenir shop. The views are fantastic - you can see the whole island. And on a clear day, across to Mallorca.
Nestled below Monte Toro is our local town of Es Mercadal. A pretty small town with a selection of boutique shops and very good restaurants. The town hosts many musical events throughout the summer and a lovely weekly night market.
In the opposite direction is Fornells, which is split into two parts: Playa Fornells, where you'll find a beautiful sandy beach, and a handful of restaurants. And, the port area of Fornells. If you like fish restaurants then you must visit Fornells (it's where the royal family visit to try the local Caldera de Langosta!). There are many restaurants, a few shops and a weekly night market. It is a beautiful place to stroll along the harbourside & enjoy the atmosphere.
Both Ciutadella and Mahón are wonderful towns to explore in their own right and are well worth visiting during your stay. Each are large ports and with Mahón (Maó ) having the second deepest natural harbour in the world, you will regularly see cruise ships coming into berth. From Mahon port you can take a tour on a glass bottom boat around the many small islands, which have fascinating histories (you can also get a water taxi to the Isla de Rei where you'll find the wonderful Hauser & Wirth gallery & restaurant). There are impressive cathedrals and historic monuments and of course, there's an abundance of shops, restaurants, markets, bars and nightlife - in fact everything you could possibly want!
The inland towns of Alaior & Ferreries are traditional working towns which have all amenities, and a couple of smaller villages such as Sant Climent and Es Migjorn Gran are also worth a visit.
You will also find several water parks on the island, a small zoo, a horse racing hippodrome, cricket club, as well as cycling and walking trails...the list goes on! There is a full guide inside the villa, or you can visit the official Menorcan Tourist Board:
